Greater Birmingham tops inward investment jobs league table

Greater Birmingham is one of the most successful in the UK at attracting foreign investment, according to new figures released today by UK Trade & Invest, the government department that supports investors.

The area topped the national league for new job creation. 2304 new jobs were welcomed in the last financial year, out-performing every other LEP area in the country.

When jobs safeguarded are included alongside new jobs created, foreign investment directly supported over 5,000 jobs in the area last year.

GBSLEP welcomes latest Regional Growth Fund allocations

andyThe Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has approved two key programmes which will help to support businesses in the GBSLEP, along with allocations to three companies within the LEP.

In Round Four of the Regional Growth Fund, it was announced that funding had been received to set up a mezzanine loan fund for companies in Greater Birmingham and the Black Country, along with a tooling loan fund for the automotive sector.

Skills for Growth Plan launched

skills for growthSkills for Growth is a comprehensive delivery plan that sets out how the GBSLEP can deliver its vision for skills and stimulate growth in the LEP area.

It responds to the GBSLEP Strategy for Growth’s enabler ‘improving our skills talent pool’, as well as the Skills Vision and skills element of the City Deal, providing a focus for how the LEP can transform the local skills ecosystem and engage all stakeholders in its implementation.

On Monday August 5, stakeholders are invited to take part in a discussion to help inform the development of the LEP’s draft European Structural Investment Funds Strategy for 2014-2020.
