Planning consultation document launched

SPRG Consultation has today started on the Spatial Plan for Recovery and Growth (SPRG) – the emerging strategic spatial framework covering Greater Birmingham. Taking a 20-year view, the SPRG aligns with the Strategy for Growth and has been developed through collaboration between local planning authorities in the GBSLEP and supported by contributions from partners and adjoining LEPs.

Consultation will run for the rest of the year with publication of the final document due next year. An online survey has been developed in order for stakeholders to easily provide feedback to the consultation document which is also available online. Read more >


bdpBusiness Development Programme hits £1.8 million mark

A programme of grant support and mentoring for companies within the GBSLEP has now approved applications worth a total of £1.8 million in grants and match support.

The Business Development Programme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and offers grants of £10,000 to £15,000 to businesses in the LEP area.

A total of 51 applications have been approved so far and businesses still have time to put bids in.

As well as financial assistance, businesses can apply for a coaching and mentoring scheme through the great200leaders programme. Read more >


GBSLEP Apprenticeship stars shine at awards

green bridgeEmployers and apprentices in the GBSLEP area have dominated the regional heat of the National Apprenticeship Awards.
The awards recognise and champion the high calibre of apprentices and employers in the region. The national award winners will be revealed at the final held on November 14 during the Skills Show at the NEC.

JLR, Capgemini, Walter Smiths Fine Foods and Kidderminster-based Community Housing Group were among the winners at the awards. Read more >

Round three of Green Bridge Supply Chain Programme

The next round of applications for a fund which offers grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 opens on Monday October 7. The third round of applications for GBSCP runs until November 1 2013 and offers existing SME supply chain companies funding to develop, grow and diversify their businesses within the green sector. The second round of applications are still being evaluated but the first round saw 43 applications approved worth a total of £3.4 million and leveraging in £14.4 million of private sector investment.

GBSLEP welcomes JLR investment

The GBSLEP has given its backing to the news that Jaguar Land Rover is creating 1,700 at its plant in Solihull as part of a £1.5 billion new product development programme. GBSLEP Chair Andy Street welcomed the exciting news but acknowledged that it provided a ‘significant challenge’ to the GBSLEP in terms of ensuring the supply chain and employment opportunities can be accessed by local people.
