Private sector jobs increase by 19,000, latest figures show

SPRG Figures released by the Office for National Statistics have shown that the Greater Birmingham area experienced an increase in private sector employment of 19,000 between September 2011 and September 2012. The figures from the Business Register and Employment Survey are the latest detailed breakdown of employment patterns and provide the benchmark from which the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership measures its progress.

The report shows that private sector employment in the GBSLEP area increased by 19,000, an increase of 2.8% compared with the national average of 1.6%. Read more >


metroCity Council Cabinet give green light to Metro extension

Plans to extend the Midland Metro and regenerate Centenary Square have taken a major step forward after Birmingham City Council’s cabinet approved a £42 million package of investment.

This will be the first major infrastructure project brought forward through the Birmingham City Centre Enterprise Zone Investment Plan, supporting growth and investment in the city centre. Read more >


Sector Skills Champions announced

Five ‘champions’ whose role will be to help the GBSLEP Employment and Skills Board to deliver transformation in employer-led skills provision in key sectors have been appointed.

The Sector Champions will provide leadership within their sectors to engage and inspire employers, providers and learners.
