Central business portal for businesses in LEP area goes live

An online portal detailing hundreds of business support programmes and access to finance schemes in the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (GBS LEP) area has been launched.

The Central Business Portal can be accessed via www.gbslep.com and offers companies and organisations in the LEP area a single resource for finding a range of business support services provided at a local, regional and national level as well as sources of finance to encourage expansion, growth and diversification.

GBS LEP writes to PM to nominate Greater Birmingham as focus of next phase of Heseltine Review

Following the publication of Lord Heseltine’s report ‘No Stone Unturned’ last month, the Chair of the GBS LEP has written to the Prime Minister setting out a proposal to take this agenda forward.

In the letter, GBS LEP Chair Andy Street tells the Prime Minister that Lord Heseltine has been invited to look at the opportunities that could arise in Greater Birmingham were the Government to pursue a more localist agenda.

M42 Economic Gateway 

Work is underway to develop a prospectus for the M42 Economic Gateway, one of the key economic drivers within the GBS LEP.
The Gateway is a unique concentration of economic assets and growth drivers of national and regional significance, including Birmingham Airport, the NEC, Jaguar Land Rover and Birmingham Business Park already estimated to support over 100,000 jobs and £5.1 billion GVA.

Strategy for Growth White Paper consultation

The consultation on the GBS LEP Strategy for Growth White Paper has now closed. We are delighted to report that more than 450 responses were received via the GBS LEP website, written responses and at the engagement events.

Better regulation progress showcased as new tools launched

Work being undertaken by GBS LEP and the Better Regulation Delivery Office (BRDO) to create an environment of improved regulation to assist economic growth has been showcased at a national event held in Birmingham. An online resource has been launched – www.talktoreg.co.uk - which will help businesses find advice to make doing business easier.
